The Grind Behind the Ride: A Sneak Peek Into Planning Leslie’s Ride

I’m sitting here at my desk, the clock ticking past midnight, surrounded by half-empty coffee cups and stacks of permit applications. To most people, Leslie’s Ride is a day of thunderous engines, gleaming chrome, and community spirit. But to me, and the small team behind the scenes, it’s a labor of love that starts months before the first kickstand goes up.

Planning a charity motorcycle ride isn’t just about picking a route and hoping people show up. It’s a mountain of logistics, a marathon of emails, and a deep, emotional journey. I wanted to pull back the curtain for you today. I want you to see the "grind" behind the ride. Why? Because transparency is the bedrock of community, and I want you to know exactly what it takes to honor a legacy as powerful as Leslie’s.

The Heartbeat of the Mission

Before we talk about permits or insurance, we have to talk about Leslie. For those of you who are new here, Leslie Craig-Goings wasn’t just a name on a flyer. She was a cornerstone of our lives and a breathtaking source of inspiration for everyone she touched. Her work at WEAVE wasn’t just a job; it was a calling. She dedicated herself to helping others find their strength in their darkest moments.

Losing her left a silence that felt impossible to fill. But as bikers, we know that when the world gets too quiet, the best thing you can do is start your engine. We created Leslie’s Ride to transform that personal grief into a collective force for good. Every time I feel overwhelmed by the paperwork, I think of her smile and the lives she changed. That’s the fuel in our tank. You can read more about the woman who started it all on our About page.

The Logistics: More Than Just a Map

If you’ve ever ridden in a large group, you know it feels effortless when it’s done right. You just twist the throttle and follow the leader. But making it look easy is the hardest part of the job. Here is a small glimpse into the professional "to-do" list that keeps me up at night:

  • Permits and City Coordination: We don’t just ride through the streets; we coordinate with local municipalities to ensure we aren’t disrupting traffic or violating city codes. It’s a dance of paperwork and phone calls.

  • Safety and Route Planning: We scout every inch of the road. We look for potholes, construction zones, and tricky intersections. Safety is our absolute priority. We want everyone to have a blast, but we want everyone to get home safe.

  • Insurance and Liability: It’s the "boring" stuff that makes the event possible. Protecting our riders and our organization requires meticulous attention to detail.

  • Volunteer Management: From the road guards to the registration table, our team is the backbone of the operation. Coordinating schedules for dozens of volunteers is like conducting a symphony.

  • Sponsor and Vendor Outreach: Finding partners who share our values and want to give back to the community.

Building a Community Tapestry

One of the things I love most about this process is how it brings people together. As we gear up for this year’s event, we are actively looking for partners to join our mission. In the coming weeks, I’ll be using this blog to highlight the incredible people who step up to support us.

When a vendor signs up, they aren’t just renting a space; they are joining a family. We want to highlight our vendors because they provide the flavor and the fun of the event. Whether you sell leather gear, hot coffee, or custom parts, we want to give you a platform. If you’re interested in joining us, you can find out how to get involved on our Vendors page.

Similarly, our sponsors are the ones who allow us to maximize our donation to WEAVE. We don't take your support lightly. We offer high-visibility perks because we want the community to see your brand standing for something meaningful. We believe in mutual benefit, when you help us, we want to help you grow, too. We even offer flexible options like payment plans because we know that "let’s work together" should mean exactly that. Check out our Sponsorships page to see how we can team up.

The Soundtrack of the Streets

A motorcycle ride is a visceral experience. It’s the smell of exhaust, the wind in your face, and the roar of the engines. But the party really starts when the kickstands go down. We are currently in the process of vetting bands to provide the soundtrack for Leslie’s Ride.

Finding the right musical fit is a grind in itself. We want music that captures the grit and the soul of the riding community. When we sign a band, they’ll get their own dedicated spotlight right here on the blog. We want our riders to know who is playing, where they come from, and why they’ve chosen to support our cause. It’s all part of the "behind the scenes" story we’re building.

Why We Are Sharing the "Messy Middle"

You might wonder why an event planner would want to talk about the stress and the workload. Usually, we want everything to look polished and perfect. But Leslie’s Ride isn't a corporate event; it's a community movement.

By being transparent about the grind, we hope to invite you in deeper. We want you to feel the weight of the mission and the excitement of the progress. When you see a post about a new sponsor or a permit finally being approved, we want you to celebrate with us. It takes a village to honor a legacy, and you are part of that village.

Won’t You Join Us?

I know it can feel intimidating if you’ve never participated in a charity ride before. Maybe you’re worried your bike isn’t "cool" enough, or you’ve never ridden in a group. Let me clear that up right now: everyone is welcome. Whether you’re on a brand-new Road King or a vintage cruiser that’s seen better days, if you have a heart for the community, you belong with us. No specialized skills are needed to show up and support a great cause.

We are transforming a somber memory into an energetic, purpose-driven impact. Every dollar raised, every mile ridden, and every vendor shout-out brings us one step closer to making a real difference for the survivors supported by WEAVE.

If you have questions, or if you just want to say hi and offer some encouragement while I tackle this mountain of paperwork, please reach out to us. We’d love to hear from you.

Looking Ahead

This is just the beginning. This "Behind the Scenes" series is going to be our way of keeping you in the loop as we count down the days. Next time, I’ll be introducing you to our first major sponsor of the season and talking a bit more about the specific impact our ride has on the local community.

The grind is real, but the reward is breathtaking. Thank you for being on this journey with us. Let’s make this year’s ride the biggest and best one yet, all in honor of Leslie.

Stay safe, keep the rubber side down, and I’ll see you in the next update.
